Home / Amy's Recent Cruise Review!

I am delighted to say that after several years in the Travel Industry I have FINALLY taken my first cruise!  What a trip!  My husband and I sailed on Celebrity’s Summit from Puerto Rico.  During our seven night sailing we visited St. Maarten, Dominica, Grenada, Bonaire, and Aruba. As a first time cruiser I was shocked by the enormity and splendor of the ship!  My very favorite was the Thellasotherapy Spa Pool, a Celebrity exclusive.  It is a giant hot tub you can completely submerge in!  Celebrity Summit also has a wonderful art collection and terrific shopping right on board.

Our first full day found us in Phillipsburg, St. Maarten, an amazing island paradise!  My maybe brave/maybe crazy husband went on a zip line tour while I spent a relaxing day at the beach with a book---just what I needed!  St. Maarten was very clean, full of excellent shops, and has miles of uninterrupted beach.

Our next adventure was on the heavily rain-forested island of Dominica.  We booked an excursion with Celebrity to Trafalgar Falls.  After a short island tour with an enthusiastic local we arrived at a short path into the rainforest that led us to the breathtaking falls.  Appropriately, it began to mist as we entered the rainforest, but it was a brief shower which only added to the experience.  After the excitement of the day, we cheated this night and ordered the FULL dinner (all the courses) delivered to our room!  What a treat!

I was much anticipating our next destination, Grenada-the spice island.  I love to cook and I found the tour of the Nutmeg plantation fascinating. That industry has supported the island nation for many, many years and the history is amazing. Grenada is extremely mountainous and riding in the van on the treacherous roadways was an adventure in itself.

We planned to snorkel at our next stop, Bonaire, and we were not disappointed.  Most of Bonaire’s coast is protected as a marine-life sanctuary and the sea creatures are used to being peered at by humans, so they don’t scatter when you come close.  Bonaire also boasts a Flamingo Sanctuary and a Donkey Sanctuary.  Bonaire was unexpectedly my favorite of our island stops-the shopping was very unique and the island was modern, yet quaint and un-crowded.  I would go back there again and again.

Aruba was as beautiful as everyone told us it would be.  The beaches were long, and dense with sand as fine as baby powder and water that was somehow clear and bright blue at the same time.  We spent the entire day relaxing on the beach, and it was so un-crowded that we saw only four other people the whole day!

Our experience with Celebrity could not have been better, there hospitality and attention to detail was unmatched by any other vacation we have taken.  We cannot wait to sail with them again!
